PHAKANT
(The Land of Jade)


Hpakant, the famous jade producing zone is situated 159 km (7 hrs drive) north west of Myitkyina. The surrounding areas are totally covered by mountains and the population is about 100,000. 

There are two routes to Hpakant from Myitkyina, Karmine route and Hway Khar route. Hway Khar route is only for the summer time. Landscape attraction is very nice but the road is heavily pothole and bumpy. It is not recommended to travel to Hpakant during the monsoon May to September as heavy floods are usual. By using the Hway Khar route to Hpakant, across the huge Indaw Gyi Lake where the rare birds dwelling. The Lake is bigger than the Inle Lake and the scenery is enchanting.

In Hpakant, there are several types of jade mines such as the mountain cut type, river closed type and man made type. Gold processing works can be found along the Uru River. All the business depends on the jade market. Majorities are jade mine workers. All the foodstuff and goods are carried from Mandalay. Various kinds of tribe come and work in Hpakant as jade miners or dealers. Kachin, Mine Tar and Shan tribes can be found there.

Staying in Hka-Kant
9 Days/8 Nights 
(Yangon - Mitkyina - Hpa Kant - Indawgyi Lake - Myitkyina - Yangon)

Day 1: Depart Yangon (or) Mandalay - Myitkyina

Transfer to airport for flight to Myitkyina and staying at the hotel. Making a visit to Karain Naw and enjoying with the paintful resort at there after driving for about half and hours from Myitkyina. Having lunch at Karain Naw. Crossing the Irrawaddy river by boat which is rounding the beautiful mounts. Having dinner at the golf club restaurant. Overnight staying at the YMCA Guest House.

Day 2 : Myitkyina - Hpa Kant

Driving to Hpa Kant. It takes 5 hours from Myitkyina. It is a land of jade in Myanmar. The most valuable jade are manufactured at that region. Having lunch at Hpa Kant, and then making a study of the work sites of jade and gem. Making dinner and night staying at Hpa Kant.

Day 3 : Lone Khin Village

Sightseeing at Lone Khin Village not far from Hpa Kant ( 45 minutes drive from Hpa Kant). Proceed at the Lone Khin Jade mines and having lunch there, again seeking the knowledge at the other mines of Jade and gems on the return way to Hpa Kant.

Day 4 : Sai Naung Village

Making a journey for sightseeing to Sai Naung village. It is always 10 minutes drive from Hpa Kant. Having lunch there. Having dinner and nightstaying at Sai Naung village.

Day 5 : Hway Kha Village

Drive to Hway Kha Village. Touring in Hway Kha Village and making a lunch there. Visiting the gem site and having dinner and overnight staying at Hway Kha.

Day 6 : Hway Kha Village - Indawgyi Lake

Stretching the trip by car from Hway Kha village to Indawgyi Lake. It is the biggest lake in Myanmar and we can seek the knowledge from the pagodas nearby. And then driving to Hopin. Dinner and rest for night shall be at Hopin City. 

Day 7 : Hopin City - Myitkyina

Rounding the town Hopin and searching the knowledge for ½ day. And for overnight back to Myitkyina.

Day 8 : Myitkyina - Confluence

Driving to confluence of Maikha and Malikha and staying there feeling with the paintful points nearby. Lunch at the confluence. Viewing from Taw Bum Tower and rounding the Kyein Kharam Kha Village. Driving back to Myitkyina, enroute sightseeing in Lisu Village on the way. Having dinner and overnight staying at Myitkyina.

Day 9 : Myitkyina Departure

Going shopping in Myitkyina, and lunch at there, checking in at the airport, flying back to Mandalay or Yangon.
Remark : There are only four flights in a week.
