Zayar Thein Gyi Nunnery if time permits. Return to the Road
to Mandalay for departure to Bagan. During the day enjoy the
rural scenery from the sundeck of riverside villages, palm
trees and small boats ferrying local produce and passengers.
Pagodas and monasteries are also part of a landscape unchanged
for centuries in the 245km between Mandalay and Bagan. Dinner
and overnight on board.
Day
3: Irrawaddy Cruise (B, L, D)
Breakfast on board. The Road to Mandalay arrives in Bagan
around 09:30 in the morning. Start a day of sightseeing at
this incredible site with the golden stupa of Shwezigon Pagoda,
which is Bagan's most important temple. Visit the colourful
market of Nyaung U and continue to Htilominlo, the last Bamar
style temple built in Bagan, with old murals and friezes.
Return to the Road to Mandalay for lunch. In the afternoon,
visit Ananda Temple, a Bagan masterpiece with four standing
Buddha's, and the adjacent brick monastery from the early
Bagan era with well-preserved murals. Visit the Gubyaukgyi
Temple (Myinkaba village) and stop at a lacquerware shop to
watch craftsmen skilfully making this well-known product of
Bagan. Continue to the less frequently visited village of
Minnanthu and enjoy a beautiful sunset from one of the temples
of Bagan. In the evening dinner with traditional puppet show
on board. Overnight on board.
Day
4: Irrawaddy Cruise-Bagan (B)
After breakfast leave the Road to Mandalay and continue
sightseeing in Bagan or transfer to next destination.
