Dress
The atmosphere on board is relaxed.
For dinner appropriate dress is 'smart casual', e.g.
open-neck shirt and jacket for men. Formal wear is not
required. Between September and February it is advisable
to pack a light sweater for the evenings. During the
day, light cotton clothes are the most practical for
sightseeing. When visiting temples, clothing must cover
shoulders and thighs, so 'short' shorts/skirts are not
appropriate. Slip-on shoes are also recommended as bare
feet are required when entering places of worship.
Drinks
Tea, coffee (excluding espresso
& cappuccino) and bottled still water are available
at all times.
Clients wishing to order wine
or champagne for on arrival should be supplied with
the wine list from which to choose at the advertised
rates.
Emergency Medical Procedure
A defined Emergency Medical Procedure
has been drawn up in association with AEA International
to cover the evacuation of passengers to hospital should
a medical emergency occur that cannot be dealt with
on board.
If the ship is berthed at Mandalay
or Bagan a road ambulance will transfer the passenger
to hospital. If the vessel is between towns on the river,
a Zodiac inflatable is available to transport casualties.
Both Mandalay and Bagan are serviced by scheduled commercial
flights from Yangon. Passengers will be transferred
to centres of medical excellence in Singapore or Bangkok
if medically necessary.
Staff on board RTM will liaise
with AEA throughout the procedure.
Entertainment
A pianist plays nightly in the
piano bar. In the Lounge or on the Observation Deck
a cultural lecture will be held on "sailing"
days and a variety of local entertainers will perform
in the evenings.
A small library of topical books
in several languages is available in Reception, along
with a selection of games.
The remote-control cabin TV offers
satellite channels and there are two video channels
showing in-house movies. Please note: TV channels are
only available when the ship is moored at Bagan or Mandalay.
Gratuities
Gratuities on board are at passenger's
discretion. Gratuities can be given centrally to Reception,
which will make sure that they are equally divided amongst
all on board staff. Suggested amount is $10-$20 per
day per cabin depending on how happy people are.
The guides are not included in
this pool of gratuities and should be tipped separately.
Languages
On board all main languages are
spoken, i.e. English, French, German, and most of the
time there is a Japanese guide available to assist with
Japanese speaking passengers.
Laundry
There is no on-board laundry facility.
Mail
Postcards can be given to Reception
who will mail them free of charge. However this mail
service is not an express one.
Meals
Early morning coffee and tea are
served in cabins on request.
Breakfast is served buffet-style
in the Restaurant.
Lunch is served in the Restaurant,
or on the Observation Deck weather permitting, on an
open sitting basis from 12:30 to 15:00.
Dinner is served in the Restaurant
on an open seating basis from 19:00 to 22:00. The Restaurant,
however, will stay open until the last passenger has
dined.
Afternoon Tea is served in the
Lounge or on the Observation Deck.
RTM endeavours to cater for special
dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan etc.
and will be pleased to note personal requirements in
advance. However, we are unable to provide meals that
require strict religious observance in the preparation.
Medical facilities
RTM permanently has a
qualified Burmese doctor onboard, who can be contacted
through Reception. A small fee is charged for medical
services and prescriptions.
Menus
Lunch The buffet lunches
have 7 different themes: Burmese, Shan, Thai, Indonesian,
Chinese, Indian and European, and are rotated weekly.
Dinner is plate-service and consists
of:
- Choice of 2 entrees
- Choice of 3 main courses (incl. vegetarian)
- Selection of cheese
- Dessert

On board payment
All transactions on board are in US Dollars. Items for
sale are priced in USD. Major international credit cards
except Master Card are accepted, and may be used to
open an on board signing facility. USD travellers cheques
and FECs (Foreign Exchange Certificates) are also accepted,
but not personal cheques. Other foreign are not accepted.
It is advisable to change money
in Yangon before joining RTM. There are limited foreign
exchange facilities on board for changing USD into FECs.
Safety and Security
RTM meets international safety
requirements for river vessels of her classification.
There are safety instructions in each cabin and safety
procedures will be advised over the ship's public announcement
system before sailing
For the safety of all passengers,
a discreet security presence is an essential part of
our operation.
Visitors are not permitted to
board the ship.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted in the
Restaurant or Lounge. Passengers may smoke in the Bar,
on Observation.
Staff
There are 74 members
of crew, comprising Burmese, Asian, Australasian and
European nationalities. The Hotel Manager and team of
multi-lingual staff can be contacted through Reception.
